Idle fang, Pouring Gasoline Review:

It's been a while since I last wrote.

See I completely forgot about this blog for a while because of Ultrakill and trying in vein to kill Sisyphus prime. While I was taking a rest from the game I was looking through my bookmarks and came across a bookmark for Bandcamp, leading to a band called Idle fang, specifically their album "POURING GASOLINE"

When I looked at this I went "Oh damn this looks cool, someone should write a blog post about- Ohhh." So here we are with my honest thoughts on Idle fang's Pouring Gasoline.

First, Just wanna say it's cool that these guys come from right here in my home state of NJ, Once again the state proves itself as the greatest haven for alt music, And I gotta say the album cover is among my favorites of the smaller bands I've seen in recent memory.

But looks aren't everything, What's it sound like?

Pouring gasoline is super fast and aggressive but not quite to the grindcore-esque degree of Generation Decline. They sound like Early refused for me but the vocals are more screamy and altogether illegible. Which wouldn't be a problem if there were lyrics but everywhere Idle fang is active there is NO lyrics. Unfortunately with the rise of right wing/nazi "Punk" bands you gotta be super careful with what you listen to, especially if they don't make their lyrics public.

Just to make sure they weren't some fascist band I had to do a bit of extra research and I can safely conclude that they aren't. Idle fang has an Instagram where they upload band posters under the same name, And I'm sure it's the band since their bio links back to their Bandcamp. and they made some flyers that look like this:

Def not the thing a Nazi punk band would make. So we're clear for takeoff!

as for the album... as much as I WANTED to love it, I gotta admit this one ain't my thing. there's not much for me to write about. it's just growls, riffs, drums, and ultimately several songs just end up sounding the same. The only other song that really got me to perk up was the first track "A thousand days" and the final track "Nice Night Tonight." and the reason for that was that the lyrics were somewhat more legible to me.

I attempted to reach out to get those lyrics but I never heard a response back. unfortunate because some of their work is genuinely really cool sounding and I'd love to know what it's actually about. but C'est la vie.

Overall? Idle fang sounds like what they are, a small punk band, unpolished and unprofessional and that adds to punk as a whole. The got some rough spots but I can tell there's real talent here and I hope they keep making stuff and growing as a band. I give them a 6/10.

That's my personal take, But Please judge for yourself: https://idlefang.bandcamp.com/album/pouring-gasoline
